About the event
What If We Built Tiny Homes to House the Unhoused?
You are invited to work with a small group of community members to get something done
WE HAVE THE POWER to house the unhoused, and we’re doing something about it. A community led group of active citizens has been working hard to get a tiny home or two built as a bite-sized start on a longer project.
We’ve found a landowner with a property. Zoning is set. Plans are being drawn. We aim to build two small homes on that property as soon as we can. In the process we are building capacity to support others in doing the same. We’re learning about zoning, social finance, wrap around supports, and how to build community in the process.
A Summit in June 2022 to Create a Community-Based Response to Homelessness in Brantford-Brant sparked an initiative to investigate tiny homes as a response. A second summit was hosted late last year to carry that initiative forward. Sixty people showed up and many have stayed with us while we’ve worked things along.
We’d like to invite you to one or both Community Conversations we are hosting on March 21 and 23, to share our progress with you, hear your reflections, and explore the ways we can all be involved in initiatives like this and to get things done. If you are a person who is unhoused or who has precarious housing, a community member, a carpenter, an advocate, a member of a non-profit, a landowner, a business person, a foundation, financier ... No matter your walk of life you have something to offer.
