About the event
A year ago, or so, a small group of Brantford-Brant citizens came together to discuss the housing crisis in our community and what we could do about it. Since then we’ve hosted two community-wide summits and over 24 Working Circles. Those Working Circles are open to everyone and are held an un-committee style, have attracted over 100 people. Each person has brought something unique and energizing to the table.
The circle has a single stable point project:
A two-home build on a single property on which another home already stands. We’ve identified 80 other properties, explored Social Finance, ways to match potential residents to potential builds, raised money, had building plans drawn up, and the nod from city staff that we’re on the right track.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL.
In the process of chipping away at that particular possibility, we’ve been building community capacity and connections with the potential to fundamentally shift our community, economy, and way of organizing for community benefit.
This Fall we are aiming to expand the circle ever more widely and spark major movement.
